Infrared and Red Light Therapy Scientific Studies, Evidence

Published by RedDot 2021-11-16

Infrared and Red light therapy is becoming more and more popular nowadays, but Is there any evidence that red light therapy really works? do you know the science behind red light therapy? Let's show you what we found through the red light therapy scientific studies.

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser light therapy (LLLT) or biostimulation (BIOS), is an FDA approved treatment originally discovered by NASA. You may also have heard of red light therapy (RLT) by its other names, which include:

photobiomodulation (PBM)

low level light therapy (LLLT)

soft laser therapy

cold laser therapy

photonic stimulation

low-power laser therapy (LPLT)

660 nm - Red Light Therapy

A greater percentage of red light is absorbed by your skin, leading to increased collagen production and optimal skin health.

850 nm - Near-Infrared Light Therapy

Near-infrared light penetrates deeper within your body - enhancing muscle recovery and reducing joint pain.

Red Light Therapy Evidence

Red light therapy is the name given to a large range of therapies that use certain wavelengths of light to promote healing, improve skin tone, and enhance circulation. Red light therapy is said to be effective for pain management, acne treatment, and the healing of certain sports injuries, among other applications.

The following is a true reviews from the user:

"I have used it for several days, great for me. When I use it, l always wear the glasses , then let the red light irradiate on my face and body, normally, 10- 15 mins every session.

My face and back has small acne now and I feel difference for my skin , my inflammation decreases. And I sleep better than before. My family doctor says red light will also do help for hair growth and pain relief, i will try it longer in the coming winter and will update my review afterwards."

"I bought this Red Light Therapy Panel about a month ago, hoping to use it to alleviate my back pain. It came with the panel and all the needed accessories: power cord, hanging cords and a goggle (shown in picture). To someone it is smaller than shown, but to me the size is just about right. It would not be as easy to hang if it is too large.

Putting it up was pretty easy (I put it up in the bathroom), but you do need to select a place where you can hang it to the right height (so you could shine the red light to your body area of choice), and is close to an electric outlet. Once turned on, the panel is quite bright (see picture). So, it is better to put on the goggle before turning it on.

As I am new to this, I took it slow and followed the instructions closely. I stayed with my back about 10 inches away from the panel, kept the sessions for 10 minutes, and 2 times per week. So far, I feel it is working as well as expected. After each session, my back pain feels much alleviated, and over a few weeks time, it does feel progressively better. Hopeful this panel will make a real lasting difference in my back health."

Red Light Therapy Scientific Studies

These true user reviews make us feel that red light therapy is really effective, so we decided to look into the science of red light therapy. The scientists studies found that the intense light from red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) helped promote growth and photosynthesis of plant cells. Red light was then studied for its potential application in medicine, more specifically to find out if RLT could increase energy inside human cells.

Red Light Therapy is most commonly known in wellness for it's anti – aging properties. Red Light causes the body to produce its own collagen at the dermal level reconstructing the skin and renewing it back to its younger state all on its own. It rehydrates the cell reducing inflammation naturally and improving healing time.

Collagen is a human protein made by fibroblast cells in the dermis layer of the skin. It is responsible for the optical tightness, elasticity, suppleness and brightening of the skin. Several studies indicate that during the ageing process the skin loses its ability to produce collagen. As a result, fine lines and wrinkles start to become less visible.

The Red Light Therapy technology is based on the benefits of exposing the skin to the Sun's renewing Red Rays. Red Light Rays are the highest of the Visible Light Rays. Note: There are zero UV Rays in our Red Light Therapy Treatments. Therefore, you cannot get a tan or burn from Red light Therapy. Red light is completely non-invasive, safe.

How Does Red Light Therapy Work?

Ever since the initial experiments in space, there have been hundreds of clinical studies and thousands of laboratory studies conducted to determine if RLT has medical benefits.

how does red light therapy work

Red Light activated ATP stimulates white blood cells that work to repair damaged tissues, and increases collagen production that builds elasticity in the skin and can aid in wound healing. ATP also activates endorphins that provide soothing relief from chronic and acute pain.

There are many different types of red light therapy. Red light beds found at salons are said to help reduce cosmetic skin issues, like stretch marks and wrinkles. Red light therapy used in an medical office setting may be used to treat more serious conditions, like psoriasis, slow-healing wounds, and even the side effects of chemotherapy. The most widely used are 660nm and 850nm wavelengths.

Just as we need air and water and food to function, human cells also need light. Red and NIR light are superior because they penetrate the tissues, blood vessels, nerves, brain, and bones. Red and NIR feed your cells to increase energy production and boost the anti-inflammatory actions of cells.

What is Red Light Therapy Health Benefits?

Health benefits include: helps with thyroid function, liver regeneration, hot flashes, inflammation, sleep, depression/anxiety, skin repair, weight, hair re-regrowth, wound healing, pain.

The good news is now we can have the red light therapy at home, click here to see some wonderful red light therapy devices. If you have a successful case of red light therapy, please share it with us, so that we can have more excellent scientific studies and evidence of red light therapy.
